If you were amongst the 70 plus members at October’s Yorkshire meeting, you will have heard some of the tremendous reports I received on the subject of our Scarborough Light Parade.  The Mayor of Scarborough, Councillor William Chatt sent us a letter praising the efforts of Yorkshire members for their excellent work. His opening paragraph said it all …

“Thank you once again for bringing this spectacular event back to Scarborough.  Michelle and I were very honoured to welcome you to the town and we were extremely grateful to you for organising this marvellous event for the benefit of our local community, and the many hundreds of tourists who were here in Scarborough for this special occasion.”  

The Scarborough South Bay Traders’ Association had reported bumper trade all day and night on Saturday with a massive influx of hundreds more visitors than normal for a September weekend.  Many restaurants along the promenade reported people queuing to be seated on one of the busiest days of the year.  James Corrigan, secretary of the association said

“On behalf of the South Bay Traders Association, I would like to congratulate you on a sterling turn out. Your event was well marshalled and a credit to all involved. If we can in any way assist in next year’s event, just ask.”

The tributes kept on coming, as Val Nixon, Senior Manager RNLI North, wrote this in her letter to Yorkshire GoldWings …

“On behalf of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution I would be so very grateful if you could sincerely thank all Wingers at your next meeting for the truly tremendous effort put in by all to ensuring a magnificent display of Goldwings, and a fantastic day of fundraising, when this year's Light Parade was held in Scarborough. To have raised over £3,100 is a fantastic achievement and with 225 Goldwings in the Parade I am sure it was a spectacular event …”

Brenda M. Horton, Honorary Secretary of the Lifeboat Supporters’ Group sent similar comments with one line from her letter stating “The Scarborough Lifeboat Station Supporters’ Group look forward to next year’s event with eager anticipation and will be pleased to continue in our support.”

These comments are just the first paragraphs from several letters I have received from a variety of Scarborough organisations.  Even the North Bay Traders have expressed a desire to become involved in the next Scarborough Light Parade, which could add a whole new dimension to the weekend.

Suffice to say, the Yorkshire Region of the GWOCGB has a superb team of volunteers and organisers. Well done to each and every one of you … you should be proud of yourselves, keep up the great work you do making this the finest region in the UK.

Yes, you guys did a great job. You need to regurgitate these letters when begging for raffle prizes and parking space next year.
